Spend 6 weeks with us as we read through the fictional book The Shack to challenge our perceptions of God. We will take the God portrayed in the book and compare it with scripture to affirm or challenge the author's perspective and through all of that allow God to reveal himself to us in new ways.

The Spirit empowers us to become people full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. He empowers us to become the people we were made to be. Serving as a group can be a very rewarding experience, and the impact on our store is huge! Adelante Thrift has volunteer opportunities six days of the week that are perfect for groups of various sizes and ages.  Many groups make serving at Adelante Thrift a regular activity.  Partnership and collaboration are the ingredients to sustainable community development.  Adelante Thrift offers service opportunities for individuals, groups, churches, schools and businesses six days of the week.  From sorting to cleaning or helping our customers, there's a spot for everyone!

Many refugees come to the country with little more than papers. Thrift’s low costs allow people, no matter where they come from, to have the dignity of providing for themselves and their families and knowing that they are part of a community. There was also a need for a thrift store as resettlement was booming and there was only one other thrift store in the area. Finally, thrift stores bring others together by functioning through donations, volunteers, and shoppers. And so, our mission drove us to choose thrift as a space where community could be uplifted, supported, and dignified by every person.

The issues at the US-Mexico border are complicated, multi-layered, and complex. As we try to raise awareness and fill in the gaps of the immigration story not seen in the media, we invite you to join us for a 3-day Border Encounter. This experience will give you the opportunity to hear from a wide variety of perspectives from US Border Patrol, immigration legal services, migrant shelters, local nonprofits serving in both relief and development capacities, and people seeking asylum in the U.S. This team will be led by Michelle Simbaqueva + Matt Adams.

On Good Friday, Jesus entered suffering for our sakes. On Resurrection Sunday, we celebrate the Good News: Christ is our cornerstone, the foundation of all we believe! Resurrection Sunday offers an open invitation to all, regardless of where you are in your faith journey, to celebrate and invite Christ into our lives in a fresh and powerful new way. 

This Resurrection Weekend, we extend an invitation for you to be an integral part of our community. Consider serving one and sitting one during our Resurrection Sunday Celebration. Click on the button below to serve and contribute to the meaningful experience we're creating together.

Lillies...Tulips...and Daisies, OH MY! It's an EGG-ceptional time for an Easter Egg Hunt! Invite some-bunny special to join you and your family for this year's Palm Sunday afternoon of fun at either WFC Lenexa or WFC Speedway campuses. Children will enjoy age-appropriate hunts and other fun items! Please register below so we know you're coming!

Want to participate by serving? We have a couple of opportunities for you! We will be handing out eggs that need to be filled on Sunday, February 18th and returned by March 3rd. You can sign up to serve at the event by distributing the eggs, helping with parking, and more!

Please take a tour with us visiting through Kansas City to discover the why behind volunteering for the organizations we partner with. 
Our vans will leave the Westside Family Parking lot at 8:45 am and make our first stop at Avenue of Life:  A goal as big as ending homelessness for kids in Kansas City cannot be accomplished alone. You will have a 30-minute tour and guide to learn why they utilize a Collective Impact approach to helping Wyandotte County. There you will have a 45-minute volunteering opportunity alongside their ministry.

• 11:30 am we will stop by a local restaurant for lunch.

• 12:30 pm We will be on our way to Mission Adelante for a quick tour and video on their mission focus: We envision a growing multicultural community of disciples making disciples, where people from all places are thriving and using our gifts together to transform our neighborhood and the world for the glory of Jesus Christ. Followed by an hour of volunteering at their local thrift shop which we will also drive you to!

• Our final stop will bring you back to the church by 3:00 pm after a full day of learning and serving! 

Families are welcome. It is a longer day, so please be advised of that when registering children under the age of 10 years old.

After arriving in Cancun, our team will head to the town of Valladolid where we will partner with a local organization and serve alongside our partners in children’s ministry and community projects. At Westside, we are committed to meeting people in their place of pain, and because we know that trauma impacts so many, we offer a one-day Trauma Competent Caregiver course. This training is for anyone who wants to demonstrate compassion, love, and empathy to their community.

This one-day training offers insight into the impact of trauma on individuals and how it manifests in attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. You will leave this workshop with helpful techniques and approaches to care for individuals who have experienced trauma.
